Biographical Information[edit]
Daniel Vavruša signed with the New York Yankees in 2011. His brother Jiří Vavruša has played in the Czech Republic.
Vavruša was 4 for 16 with four walks for the Czech Republic in the 2009 European Junior Championship, throwing out three of nine attempted base-stealers. He started at catcher ahead of Indians signee Martin Červenka. He played high school baseball in the US in 2009-2010 and also attended the MLB European Academy both years. In 2011, he made his Extraliga debut with Kotlářka Praha. He hit .391/.440/.533, finishing 9th in average, 10th in slugging, tied for 6th with 8 doubles and 8th with 24 RBI. He was slated to go to a junior college in the US in the fall of 2011 before signing with the New York Yankees in August. He was 1 for 4 with two runs and a RBI in two games for the DSL Yankees 1.
