Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Daniel Robert was drafted by the Texas Rangers in the 21st round of the 2017 amateur draft out of Auburn University. However, he did not sign with Texas at the time, doing so instead on May 10, 2018, by which time he was considered to be an amateur free agent. He was a 1B/OF in college, a line drive hitter with limited power, who only very occasionally took the mound. By the time he made his professional debut in 2019, the Rangers had decided to turn him into a full-time pitcher.

He was almost 30 by the time he reached the majors with the Rangers, having spent all of the time in the team's minor league system. He did not play in 2018 as he was starting to turn himself into a pitcher, or in 2020, when the minor leagues were shut sown by the COVID-19 pandemic, after he had put up an ERA of 0.99 in 20 games the year before and been named a Northwest League All-Star. He then pitched only 16 times in 2021, but reached AA and had an ERA of 2.78. In 2022, however, he was 4-4, 6.28 in 37 games for the AAA Round Rock Express. He also pitched for Round Rock in 2023 and 2024, going 1-2, 4.40 in an injury-plagued season the first year, and then 3-1, 2.35 with 5 saves in 25 games before getting the call to the majors the second.

In his major league debut on July 10, 2024, he allowed 2 runs on 2 hits and a walk in 1 2/3 innings of relief in a 7-2 loss to the Los Angeles Angels; both runs scored on a homer by Zach Neto. He also struck out two batters.
