Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Dana Acker was first drafted in the 23rd round of the 2019 amateur draft, by the Arizona Diamondbacks out of junior college. He had started his college career at Rice University in 2018, going 5-2, 4.20 mainly as a relief pitcher, but had transferred to San Jacinto College to get an opportunity to pitch more. He declined to sign with the D-Backs, instead going back to another four-year college, this time the University of Oklahoma for his junior season, after a stint in the Cape Cod League. He only managed to make 4 starts with the Sooners before the season was stopped by the Coronavirus pandemic in the spring of 2020, and a few months later, the Oakland Athletics selected him in the 4th round of the 2020 amateur draft.

He signed quickly with the A's after being drafted, but with the minor leagues shut down for the season, he was unable to pitch that first season. In fact, before he could make his professional debut, he was included in a five-player trade with the Texas Rangers, heading back to his home state alongside OF/DH Khris Davis and C Jonah Heim in return for SS Elvis Andrus and C Aramis Garcia.
