Biographical Information[edit]
Dan Van Cleve was an All-Tournament outfielder in the 1985 College World Series for Mississippi State as a teammate of Will Clark and Rafael Palmeiro. He had stolen 38 bases that season. The Texas Rangers took him in the 21st round of the 1985 amateur draft. Van Cleve made his pro debut with the Daytona Beach Islanders, hitting only .215/.286/.264 with 22 steals in 30 tries. In 1986, he played for the Salem Redbirds (.205/.284/.292, 36 SB, 10 CS) and Tulsa Drillers (.183/.283/.220, 10 SB, 2 CS). It was his last season in pro ball; he got his M.D. from the University of Mississippi and worked as a cardiovascular surgeon.
