Biographical Information[edit]
Dan Mahoney played many years as a catcher and came to the majors twice, with the 1892 Cincinnati Reds and the 1895 Washington Senators. While he was not always a strong hitter, his defensive skills were apparently well respected.
Dan was born in Springfield, MA three days before Willie Murphy was born in the same place.
He is not to be confused with a later player, Danny Mahoney.
His obituary in Sporting Life, February 6, 1904, called him a famous catcher, and said he committed suicide.
