Biographical Information

A cousin of Lou Brock, Dale Brock played two years in the minor leagues. He was drafted three times. In the 1971 amateur draft, he was picked in the 16th round by the Montréal Expos. He won Gold with Team USA in the 1973 FEMBA Amateur World Series. He was chosen in the 21st round of the 1974 amateur draft by the Texas Rangers. In the January phase of the 1975 amateur draft, Dale went in the third round to the Minnesota Twins. He never played in the Twins system, though, only appearing with the St. Louis Cardinals affiliates.

Brock debuted professionally with the 1976 Johnson City Cardinals and hit .274/~.381/.338 in 66 games. He stole 13 bases in 19 tries, drew 40 walks and scored 42 runs. He fielded .978, third-best among Appalachian League starting outfielders. With the 1977 Gastonia Cardinals, Brock batted .233/~.377/.288 with 36 steals in 46 tries, 86 walks and 82 runs in 119 games. He was 4th in the Western Carolinas League in both stolen bases and walks. Brock led the league's outfielders in fielding percentage (.983).
