Biographical Information

Dainer Moreira debuted in the Cuban Serie Nacional in 2006-2007 with Guantánamo. He hit .319/.349/.378 and fielded .960 as Guantánamo's starting shortstop in 2007-2008. Moreira batted .302/.345/.376 and fielded .958 in 2008-2009. He led the league with 388 AB, was 4th in assists (341) and tied for 4th in errors (22). On November 13, 2009, he went 6 for 6 with two doubles to tie the Cuban record for hits in a 9-inning game.

Playing for Pinar del Río in the 2015 Caribbean Series, he decided to defect after playing for his team on February 3rd. Already pushing 30 at the time, he was not considered to have much of a shot to reach the major leagues.
