Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Craig Harris was taken 17th overall in the 1977 amateur draft by the Oakland Athletics, one pick after infielder Wally Backman and a couple of picks ahead of pitcher Bob Welch.

He played in the minor leagues until 1983, but never reached past Double-A. High hits allowed and walk rates befell him - in 35 innings his first campaign, he surrendered 34 walks. In 1978, he allowed 77 walks and 152 hits in 116 frames, on pace to a 6.59 ERA. In 76 innings in 1979, he allowed 78 hits and 69 walks (for a 5.33 ERA - and a .545 winning percentage). In 1980, his final campaign in the A's chain, he corralled himself a bit more, allowing only 134 hits and 70 walks in 142 frames, but went only 5-12. For the 1981 campaign, he was in the Milwaukee Brewers system and surrendered 70 hits and 35 walks in 60 innings. In the San Diego Padres system for 1982, he allowed 10 hits and 9 walks in 6 innings (striking out none and posting a 12.00 ERA) and in the California Angels organization in 1983, he allowed 6 hits and 9 walks in 4 innings.

Overall, Harris pitched 439 innings and allowed 484 hits and 296 walks, while striking out only 228 batters. He was 18-35 with a 5.19 ERA.
