Biographical Information

First baseman Costen Shockley played two years in the majors. In 1964 he was part of the Philadelphia Phillies team that almost won the pennant. It was also the first full season of Dick Allen.

He also played for the 1964 Arkansas Travelers of the Pacific Coast League, hitting 36 homers, which at the time was a Travelers record.

Shockley, who had been a highly-touted prospect out of Delaware, still lived in Delaware in 2007. He had quit baseball after the California Angels told him he was being sent down to the minors in 1965. He went back to Delaware to work in construction. Source: Shockley article

He was named to the Delaware Sports Hall of Fame in 1998.
