Biographical Information[edit]
Pitcher Cory Rasmus was selected by the Atlanta Braves in the 2006 amateur draft. He was signed by scout Al Goetz and made his pro debut that summer with the GCL Braves, where he posted an 8.59 ERA in 3 games. He finally reached the big leagues with the Braves in 2013, 8 years after having been drafted.
Rasmus is the brother of Colby Rasmus and Casey Rasmus, and the son of minor leaguer Tony Rasmus. Colby and Cory always played together when they were growing up, but had never faced each other as professionals until shortly after Cory's major league debut. On May 27, 2013, the Braves visited Colby's Toronto Blue Jays for a series of interleague games, and Colby got the best of their first match-up, hitting a double off Cory in the 7th inning in a 9-3 Jays victory.
Rasmus made his first career start for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim on August 30, 2014, in place of the injured Garrett Richards. In a key game against the Oakland Athletics, he got things started with three scoreless innings, before seven relievers completed the unusual 2 - 0 combined shutout.
