Relief pitcher Cody Ege began his professional career in 2013 after being taken by the Texas Rangers in the 15th round of the2013 amateur draft.
He began his career by posting a 0.90 ERA with 39 strikeouts and a 0.800 WHIP in 30 innings between three rookie- and A-level teams. In 2014, he was 4-1 with a 3.88 mark in 37 games for the Myrtle Beach Pelicans, averaging 10.9 strikeouts per nine innings. He pitched for the High Desert Mavericks and Frisco RoughRiders in 2015 before being traded to the Miami Marlins with catcher Tomas Telis for pitcher Sam Dyson. He played for the Jacksonville Suns and Triple-A New Orleans Zephyrs (posting a 0.75 ERA in 12 innings there) to wrap up the year, going 6-2 with a 0.96 ERA in 65 1/3 innings overall. He had 86 strikeouts and allowed just 43 hits.
Despite posting a 7.36 ERA in five appearances for New Orleans to start 2016, Ege was promoted to the majors in April and debuted on April 23rd. In his first big league game, the 24-year-old tossed an inning and allowed a run to the San Francisco Giants.
