Biographical Information

"After the Red Stockings of 1869 had swept the country from Frisco to New York . . . (the) country was combed for players and this (opposing) team resulted: . . . Clipper Flynn had the third-best batting average on the 1871 Troy Haymakers, in the first year of organized professional baseball. He played first base, an important defensive position at the time, as well as right field.

The next year, although he played only 9 games, he was in every game that the 1872 Washington Olympics played. They went 2-7.

He played for Lansingburgh/Troy from 1867-69 and the Chicago White Stockings in 1870. The book The National Game states that the White Stockings beat the famous Red Stockings on September 7, 1870 and again on October 13, 1870. The Mutuals, however, beat them on July 23, 1870, a game in which Flynn batted fifth in the lineup.

He died at age 32.
