Biographical Information[edit]

After playing high school ball with Jeff Francoeur at Parkview High School in Lilburn, Georgia, catcher Clint Sammons was selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 43rd round of the 2001 amateur draft. He went on to attend the University of Georgia instead of signing and hit .265 with 11 homers and 93 RBI in three years there.

Sammons was then chosen by the Atlanta Braves in the sixth round of the 2004 amateur draft. He was signed by scout Al Goetz and made his pro debut that summer with the Danville Braves, hitting .288 in 40 games there. He spent the next year with the Rome Braves and hit .286 with a team-high 62 RBIs and 29 doubles while being named the club's Player of the Year and earning a spot on the South Atlantic League mid-season All-Star team. With the Myrtle Beach Pelicans in 2006, he hit .258 with 8 homers and 56 RBIs.

Sammons began 2007 with Myrtle Beach and was promoted to the AA Mississippi Braves in early May. He hit .243 with 5 home runs and 36 RBI in 83 games there and earned a September call-up to Atlanta. In his first big league start on September 30th, he went 2-for-3 with a double against the Houston Astros. He started 2008 with the Richmond Braves before being called up by Atlanta in late July.
