Biographical Information[edit]

Clifford Flagello was 8-4 with 4 saves as a high school senior and set his school's record for strikeouts (120) in a season. He went on to Georgia State then transferred to Shorter College. There, he was 8-5 with a 2.87 ERA and .205 opponent average, striking out 97 in 87 2/3 IP in 2006-2007. He was picked in the 25th round of the 2007 amateur draft by the Baltimore Orioles.

Flagello made his pro debut with the Bluefield Orioles, going 5-5 with a 4.83 ERA, striking out 56 in 54 innings. In 2008, he pitched for the Delmarva Shorebirds and went 5-3 with 3 saves and a 2.29 ERA in 39 appearances. He struck out 82 in 82 2/3 innings and held opponents to a .185 average. He pitched in the Hawaii Winter Baseball circuit for the West Oahu Cane Fires, going 1-2 with 3 saves and a 4.70 ERA in 11 relief appearances. Flagello is on Italy's provisional roster for the 2009 World Baseball Classic.
