Biographical Information[edit]

First baseman Cletus Dixon spent his entire baseball career in the Mississippi Valley League and the Western League. He began his playing career in 1922. As a player, Dixon hit .268 with 1,462 hits in 1,438 games. Not known for his power (9 home runs in 14 seasons), he led the Mississippi Valley League in stolen bases twice. In 1925, he had his best season average-wise, hitting .323 in 124 games for the Waterloo Hawks. He began his managerial career in 1924 with the Waterloo Hawks and led the club for seven years, capturing two championships. He later led the Davenport Blue Sox for five and a half years and won two more league titles with them.
