Biographical Information[edit]
Clay Perry played seven games for the Detroit Tigers in 1908. He was five years older than teammate Ty Cobb. Although Clay got only two hits in the majors, both of them came off future Hall of Famer Ed Walsh.
Although Perry was born and died in Wisconsin, and attended college in the state, most of his minor league career was in Southern states. He played for teams such as Montgomery, Nashville, Mobile, Chattanooga and San Antonio. He also managed teams in Texas from 1916-1918.
He was one of the earliest major leaguers to come out of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, starting there one year after future Hall of Famer Addie Joss attended.
