Biographical Information[edit]

North Carolina native Claude Wilborn spent five seasons in professional baseball from 1938 to 1942. His big break came when the Boston Bees called him to the big leagues on September 8, 1940. Wilborn appeared in five games in the outfield for the Bees, going hitless in seven at-bats and this was the total of his work and time in the major leagues.

Wilborn's five years in the game were spent primarily in class B leagues. His best year appeared to be in 1940 when he hit .309 with ten home runs for the York Bees of the Interstate League. This showing got him his invite to show his style to the big league Bees and his performance did not quite meet their demands.

Wilborn spent two more seasons in the minors and ended his career in 1942. Claude appeared in 512 minor league games with 588 hits in 2,012 at-bats, including 37 homers for a career .292 batting average.

Claude Wilborn died at his home in Roxboro, NC on November 13, 1992. He was eighty years of age.
