Biographical Information[edit]
Born in France but listed in the papers as being "from" Niles, OH, Claude Gouzzie made his only appearance in the Major Leagues when Emmet Heidrick wrenched his ankle in the St. Louis Browns' loss to the Cleveland Indians on July 22, 1903. Regular Browns second baseman Bill Friel went out to CF to take Heidrick's place, and Gouzzie played the last 3 innings at second, going 0-1 at the plate and picking up an assist in his only fielding chance.
