Biographical Information[edit]

The nephew of Chun-Liang Wu, Chun-Yi Wu pitched for 11 years in Taiwan.

Wu played in the 1993 World Junior Championship. He debuted as a pro with the Brother Elephants in 1997, with a 2.68 ERA and no decisions. The next year, he was 2-5 with a 4.08 ERA, followed by a 8-9, 3.91 campaign in '99. He also won the CPBL Most Improved Player Award in 1999. Wu recorded 2 shutout innings in the 1999 CPBL All-Star Game, and he got the win. He pitched for Taiwan in the 1999 Intercontinental Cup, allowing 9 hits and 5 runs in 6 2/3 IP to post the worst ERA on the staff. The Tainan native was 1-9 with a 4.77 ERA in 2000 and 1-2 with a save and a 5.06 ERA in 2001. He pitched 3 1/3 innings in the 2001 Taiwan Series with only a run allowed, and the Brothers beat the Uni-President Lions in 7 games.

In 2002, Wu improved to 5-1 with 11 saves and a 2.70 ERA. He was 10-1 with a 2.20 ERA in 2003. Had he qualified, he would have tied Hiroaki Nakayama for third in the CPBL in ERA behind John Frascatore and Jeff Andra. Wu was named the starter of the 2003 Taiwan Series Game 3, and he pitched 8 1/3 innings with a run allowed to outduel Chung-Nan Tsai. The Elephants beat the Sinon Bulls in 6 games. He backslid in 2004 to go 4-5 with a save and a 4.01 ERA and had a 3-1, 4.36 record in 2005. In 2006, Wu was 0-3 with a save and a 5.02 ERA. He was 4-4 with a save and a 5.69 ERA in 2007, his last season.

Wu threw a slider, curveball, changeup and sinker.

Overall, Wu was 38-40 with a 3.94 ERA, struck out 365 and pitched 816 innings in 11 seasons in the CPBL.
