Biographical Information[edit]

The older brother of Ted Wilborn, Chuck Wilborn was drafted by the Cleveland Indians in the 12th round of the 1975 amateur draft. Moving on to junior college, he was drafted by the New York Yankees in the secondary phase of the January 1976 amateur draft. Wilborn played three season in the minor leagues in the San Diego Padres organization, from 1976 to 1978. An outfielder, he batted only .195 in 48 games in his first season for the Walla Walla Padres of the Northwest League in 1976. He started 1977 with Reno of the California League while waiting for the short-season Northwest League to start its activities, and batted only .162 in 26 games; back in Walla Walla that season, he improved to .273 with a .380 slugging percentage. In 1978, he was back at Reno and hit a solid .302 in 77 games but did not return the next season.
