Biographical Information

Chuck Lauer played a number of positions during his three years in the majors. He was in 11 games as an outfielder (mostly in right field), five as a catcher, three as a pitcher and one as a first baseman.

Lauer pitched only in 1884 in the majors, although even in that year he was more often in the outfield. In 1889 and 1890, he was primarily a catcher.

The Sporting Life issue of October 25, 1890 referred to him as "Fat Chuck Lauer, the Chicago catcher and latterly of Evansville and Quincy, Ill.", saying that he was 45 pounds lighter than when he was with Pittsburg in the spring. Lauer was asked and gave his opinions about Ed Eiteljorge and a pitcher named Montague.
