Biographical Information[edit]

Chuck Koney was a minor league player and longtime scout.

A second baseman, Koney began his minor league career in the Boston Red Sox organization as a 17-year-old in 1943 with the Roanoke Red Sox. Viewed as an eventual successor to Bobby Doerr at second in Boston, he spent several years with the Louisville Colonels of the American Association. His career abruptly ended when he lost his leg in a household explosion.

Following his playing days, Koney was a Red Sox scout for many years. He died in 2015 at age 90.
