After serving as a pilot in World War II, Devereaux was All-Southwest Conference in basketball and baseball at Baylor. He played in the national basketball championship. In 1952, he coached Baylor's baseball team to a 9-6 record; most notably, the team had that year's All-American catcher, Larry Isbell. Devereaux later coached and managed semipro baseball and worked in real estate.
