Biographical Information

Christopher Madonna was minor league catcher and played for Italy in the 2000 Olympics.

Undrafted after his senior year in 1994 when he finished his college career with the University of North Carolina, Madonna joined the Zanesville Greys of the independent Frontier League. His play in the league led to him signing with the New York Mets organization. After being released by the Mets beacause of elbow surgery. He then joined the Western League's Tri-City Posse for the 1996 season.

After the season, Madonna was picked up by a major league team, the Boston Red Sox. He began the 1997 season with the Michigan Battle Cats in the class A Midwest League. He played in only 16 games, and was hitting .147 in 34 at bats for the Battle Cats before being promoted to the Trenton Thunder of the class AA Eastern League. Madonna hit .341 in 14 games for Trenton before an elbow injury cut his season short. The Red Sox released him the following year.

Madonna rejoined the Posse in 1998. In 2000 he played for Cantine Ceci Parma in the Italy's Serie A1, where he hit .400/.540/.522 with 15 home runs and 39 RBI. Later in that year he hit .280 with a double, home run, and six RBI in seven games for Italy in the Olympics. He joined the Oakland Athletics in 2001 and hit .236/~.345/.387 with 4 home runs and 16 RBI in 40 games for the Midland RockHounds of the Texas League. In the 2001 Baseball World Cup, Madonna batted .286/.348/.429 as a C/1B/DH to lead the Italian team in slugging.

He is currently the hitting coach for Villanova University.
