Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Christian Morris was selected by the New York Yankees in the 33rd round of the 2015 amateur draft, out of Indiana University Bloomington. He began his pro career that season with the GCL Yankees 2 and also pitched once for the Tampa Yankees of the Florida State League. Altogether, he was 0-3, 5.59 in 9 games. Things went a lot better for him in 2016 when he spent a full season in the South Atlantic League with the Charleston RiverDogs. He was 8-5, 2.99 in 22 starts, pitching 120 1/3 innings. In 2017, he moved to the bullpen and saw time with three teams: the Staten Island Yankees, Charleston and Tampa also missing time with an injury. He was 6-2, 2.52 in 28 games, continuing to show good potential for a late-round draft pick.

In 2018, Morris started the year with the re-named Tampa Tarpons, but struggled. He went back to Staten Island to start the year where he overwhelmed younger competition in the New York-Penn League to the tune of an 0.92 ERA in 12 games. Back with Tampa on August 6th, he relieved Deivi Garcia to start the 8th inning of the second game of a doubleheader against the Clearwater Threshers after Cruz had been perfect through the first seven frames. This being extra innings, his stint began with a runner on second base, placed there by the Schiller Rule, and that runner came to score as a result of an error and a fielder's choice. It was the only run of the game and he was stuck with a 1-0 loss even though he and Garcia had combined on a no-hitter.
