Biographical Information[edit]

Infielder Christian Koss comes from an athletic family, but he's the only baseball player in the lot. His parents met at California Baptist University where his father played basketball and his mother volleyball; he has two siblings, both of whom are soccer players.

He was originally drafted by the Colorado out of the University of California, Irvine in the 12th round of the 2019 amateur draft. He played for the Grand Junction Rockies of the Pioneer League in 2019, hitting .332/.447/.605 in 53 games and was named both a mid-season and a post-season All-Star in the circuit, as well as its player of the month for July. He then had to sit out the 2020 season when the minor leagues were shut down by the Coronavirus pandemic, then on December 3rd, he was traded to the Boston Red Sox for P Yoan Aybar. He spent three seasons in the Red Sox system, from 2021 to 2023, reaching AAA by the end of the third season. However, his batting average and OBP declined each year as he was moving up and on March 27, 2024, he was traded to the San Francisco Giants for cash considerations. He hit .386 in 25 games for the AA Richmond Flying Squirrels to earn a second look at AAA, this time with the Sacramento River Cats. In 88 games total, including a short rehabilitation assignment with the ACL Giants, he hit .299/.376/.496 with 9 homers and 47 RBIs.

He made the Giants' major league roster out of spring training in 2025. He was already familiar with one of his new teammates, as he had played on the same team as C Patrick Bailey both in the Cape Cod League and in the Arizona Fall League. He had to wait until the fifth game of the season to make his debut, doing so as the starting second baseman and #9 hitter against the Houston Astros on April 1st; he went 0 for 3 with a walk and a run scored in a 3-1 win.
