Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder Chris Ward played 92 games for the Chicago Cubs in 1974, hitting just .204. He had also gone 0 for 1 in a pinch-hitting appearance in 1972.

In a strange statistical twist, Ward played 22 games as an outfielder and 6 as a first baseman - and all 6 of those games came against the Montreal Expos. It's not as if the Cubs needed to get his bat in the line-up because he hit particularly well against Montreal either: he went 3 for 31 (.097) against the Expos, getting more at-bats against them than any other opponent, with nothing to show for it.
