Biographical information[edit]

Chris Salamida was a minor league baseball pitcher who played in the Houston Astros organization from 2006 to 2009, then pitched in the independent leagues.

He was drafted by the Astros in the 13th round of the 2006 amateur draft, and began his professional career that season with the Tri-City ValleyCats. He started his career off with a bang, going 10-1 with a 1.06 ERA in 14 games started. He was a minor league short-season All-Star that year. He slumped in 2007, appearing in 27 games for the Salem Avalanche - making 25 starts - and going 8-8 with a 5.85 ERA in 130 2/3 innings.

In 2008, he converted to relief pitching. With the Avalanche and Corpus Christi Hooks, he went a combined 4-4 with a 5.71 ERA in 47 games (only two starts). He struggled in 2009 while splitting the year between the Lancaster Jethawks and Corpus Christi. Combined, he went 5-5 with a 7.12 ERA in 40 games (seven starts).

He began a five-year stint with the independent Winnipeg Goldeyes in 2010, going 10-9 with a 5.31 ERA in 21 starts after converting back to starting his first year. In 2011, he was 11-4 with a 3.82 ERA in 21 starts and in 2012, he was 5-7 with a 3.77 ERA in 20 starts. In 2013, he went 7-1 with a 2.23 mark in nine starts, throwing two shutouts. He began 2014 with Winnipeg and went 7-4 with a 3.29 ERA in 19 starts that year.

Overall, he went 67-43 with a 4.40 ERA in 218 games (138 starts) over nine seasons.

He was originally signed by scout Mike Maggart.
