Biographical Information[edit]

Chris Matlock was an All-American in 2009.

Matlock won consecutive national titles in junior college at Longview Community College. He was second in junior college baseball nationally with 12 saves in 2007. He fanned 79 while walking 13 in 2008 at the University of Central Missouri and was named second-team All-American for NCAA Division II. He was named to the All-Tournament Team in the 2009 Division II College World Series. As a senior in 2009, he went 6-2 with 14 saves, a 1.19 ERA, 79 strikeouts and only 22 hits and four walks in 53 innings. He allowed a .124 average. He set the Missouri Intercollegiate Athletic Association record for saves in a season and a career (25). The American Baseball Coaches Association picked him as the Division II Pitcher of the Year.

The Texas Rangers took Matlock in the 21st round of the 2009 amateur draft. He was 1-7 with 3 saves and a 4.46 ERA for the Spokane Indians, allowing a .208 average. He was one loss shy of the Northwest League lead. Texas released Chris in spring training the next year.
