Biographical Information[edit]
Chris Czarnik briefly reached AAA as a pitcher and later was a college coach.
Undrafted out of college, Czarnik was signed by the Atlanta Braves. With the 1988 Idaho Falls Braves, he was 4-5 with a 4.92 ERA. He tied for 9th in the Pioneer League in losses and was 4th in hits allowed (99). He improved to 5-4, 2.77 with 4 saves for the 1989 Burlington Braves, leading the team with 41 appearances on the mound. In 1990, he threw an unusual no-hitter for the Durham Bulls against the Winston-Salem Spirits; for one thing, he lost (3-2). More importantly, it was a 14-inning no-hitter, the second-longest in the minor leagues from 1958-2013; only a 16-inning 1988 job by Robert Rowen and Atsushi Tagi went longer. For the year, he pitched for Durham (5-1 ,2 Sv, 1.15, .92 WHIP in 17 G), the Greenville Braves (4-4, 2.98 in 21 G) and the Richmond Braves (0-1, 7 R in 9 IP). He finished his career 18-15 with 7 saves and a 3.21 ERA in 98 games (26 starts). He worked 280 1/3 IP, allowing 277 hits and 98 walks while striking out 176.
From 2001-2004, he was head coach of his alma mater, before the school dropped baseball.
