Biographical Information[edit]

Chorye Spoone pitched in the minor leagues from 2005 to 2013. He reached Triple-A in parts of two seasons and was once named a Baseball Prospectus top prospect (#75 in 2008), but never reached the major leagues.

He was drafted twice. Initially, he was taken by the San Diego Padres in the 36th round of the 2004 amateur draft, but opted not to sign. He did sign after being taken by the Baltimore Orioles in the 8th round of the 2005 amateur draft, a couple picks after utilityman Steve Pearce and a couple ahead of pitcher Clayton Richard. He was signed by scout Ty Brown.

After posting an 8.03 ERA in 24 2/3 innings his first pro campaign, he improved to 7-9 with a 3.56 mark in 26 games (25 starts) for the Delmarva Shorebirds in 2006 and 10-9, 3.26 in 26 games (25 starts) for the Frederick Keys in 2007. He slipped after that, but still reached Triple-A for the first time in 2011, going 2-1 with a 5.50 ERA in 8 starts for the Norfolk Tides. He became a free agent following the 2011 campaign and joined the Boston Red Sox system. Again, he reached Triple-A, posting a 2.79 ERA in 14 relief appearances, but he spent most of the season at Double-A. Released by Boston in July, the Toronto Blue Jays picked him up. He spent the rest of 2012 and all of 2013 in their system.

Overall, Spoone went 43-48 with a 4.06 ERA in 211 games (116 starts). In 744 innings, he allowed 673 hits and 432 walks, while striking out 576 batters.
