Chiu-Lung Liu was a submarine pitcher in Taiwan and Japan. He played for the Taiwan national team in the 1977 Intercontinental Cup (where his brother was a teammate), 1983 Asian Championship, 1984 Olympics and 1987 Intercontinental Cup.
He pitched for Yamaha Musical Instruments in Japan's industrial leagues. In the 1987 city tournament, he was 2-0 with a 2.84 ERA to help Yamaha take the title, the first foreigner to be named MVP in the event's 50+-year history. Liu later became a naturalized Japanese citizen, continuing to work at Yamaha after his playing career for them ended.
