Biographical Information[edit]

Chip Lawrence spent parts of two seasons in AAA then became a scout.

Lawrence was undrafted out of college and signed with the Baltimore Orioles. He split 1996 between the Bluefield Orioles (7 for 34, HR, 4 BB) and Frederick Keys (.235/.284/.258 in 43 G, .924 FLD% at SS). In '97, he served as a utility infielder with three Orioles farm clubs: Frederick (.268/.333/.335 in 57 G), the Bowie Baysox (3 for 13, BB) and the Rochester Red Wings (.233/.283/.279 in 17 G). In 1998, he served in the same capacity with the same three teams, hitting .221/.250/.231 in 48 games for the Keys, going 3 for 12 for the Baysox and going 9 for 30 with a double and 7 walks with Rochester. In 1999, he moved to the independent Lehigh Valley Black Diamonds, batted .233/.297/.323 with 12 steals in 16 tries, fielding .969 as their main shortstop. Overall, Lawrence had hit .240/.302/.300 in 308 games in the minors, with 94 runs and 78 RBI. He pitched one shutout inning. He fielded .951 in 223 games at SS, .941 in 38 at 2B and .927 in 35 at 3B.

Chip later scouted for the Toronto Blue Jays (2000-2003), Philadelphia Phillies (2003-2010) and San Diego Padres (2012- ). He signed Domonic Brown.
