Biographical Information[edit]
Chikara Tsugawa has been a player and umpire in Nippon Pro Baseball.
The Yakult Swallows took him in the 4th round of the 1991 NPB draft. He would play for their minor league team through 1999, but only made it to NPB for one game, going 0 for 2 in 1997. The team had a strong starting outfield with 38-homer man Dwayne Hosey, 21-homer man Atsunori Inaba and .300 hitter Tetsuya Iida on their way to the 1997 Japan Series.
After Tsugawa's playing career ended, he became a Pacific League umpire starting in 2001. He worked the 2005 NPB All-Star Game, 2008 Japan Series, 2010 Japan Series, 2013 NPB All-Star Game and 2017 World Baseball Classic.
