Biographical Information[edit]

Chien-Nan Lai played and won a Gold Glove in the TML.

Lai represented Taiwan in the 1990 Haarlemse Honkbalweek. The Brother Elephants drafted Lai in the second round of the 1991 CPBL draft, but he refused to sign. When the Taiwan Major League was founded in 1997, Lai decided to turn pro and signed with the Kaoping Fala. Lai won the Gold Glove award as a shortstop in his rookie year, but only batted .192/.234/.205. His batting line improved to .228/.257/.276 in 1998, and he won the Gold Glove again. Lai batted .231/.279/.303 in 1999, and participated in the All-Star Game for the first time in his career. However, poor hitting limited Lai's performance. He mainly served as a backup shortstop after the 1999 season, and only had 145, 42 and 19 at-bats respectively in the next three seasons. When the two league merged in 2003, no team was interested in Lai, and his professional career ended. Lai then became a coach. He coached Chang Jung Christian University from 2012 to 2014, San-Hsin High School in 2014 and 2015, then transferred to the Sanmin Senior High School from 2015 to 2018. He is the coach for the Chang Jung Christian University from 2020 to present(2023).

Overall, Lai had hit .211/.256/.253 in six seasons in the TML.
