Biographical Information[edit]
Raymond "Chick" Sorrells was in 2 games in the major leagues with the Cleveland Indians under manager Tris Speaker in 1922. He was a pinch-runner in the first game, and played shortstop in the second game. That season, he had mostly been in the minors playing second base with the Decatur Commodores. The following year he played shortstop with the Greenville Staplers.
His second game in the bigs got a lot of attention because manager Speaker used 21 men in an attempt to give playing time to some youngsters. Oddly, in spite of that, and in spite of the game being a high-scoring one (the final was 15-5), the game took only 2 hours and 12 minutes to play.
