Chicago Tribune
(Redirected from Chicago Daily Tribune)
The Chicago Tribune is a newspaper in Chicago, IL. Founded in 1847, the newspaper is owned by the Tribune Company, which owned the Chicago Cubs for almost 30 years. The Tribune has featured the writing of Lew Freedman, Jerome Holtzman, Dave Nightingale, Mike Royko and Dave Van Dyck. Joe Murphy and Arch Ward were the sports editors at different times. The latter was instrumental in the creation of the All-Star Game, using the Tribune as his pulpit to promote the idea.
In 1915, the Tribune organized a contest to find the best three amateur baseball players under the age of 21 in Chicago. The prize for the winners was to spend two weeks with one of the city's three major league teams at the time. Henry Rasmussen and Charlie Pechous began their major league careers as winners of the contest.
