Tribune Company

From BR Bullpen

The Tribune Company is the current owner of the Chicago Cubs. They bought the club from the Wrigley family in 1981 for $20.5 million. In 1984, they saw the Cubs reach the playoffs for the first time in nearly 40 years, and they oversaw the first night game at Wrigley Field in 1988. The company also owns multiple newspapers such as the Chicago Tribune and the Los Angeles Times and many media outlets including WGN-TV and WGN-AM in Chicago, WPIX-TV in New York, and KTLA-TV in Los Angeles.

Early in 2007, it was announced that Tribune was being sold to private ownership and that the Cubs would be sold following the season.
