Biographical Information[edit]
Chia-Ming Tu has played in the CPBL.
Tu represented Taiwan in the 2011 World Youth Championship (beating Brazil and Venezuela) and 2013 U-18 Baseball World Cup (going 1-0 with a 1.23 ERA, beating Lukáš Ercoli and the Czechs) [1]. The CTBC Brothers selected him in the fourth round of the 2014 CPBL Draft, and he had a 5.29 ERA in 7 relief outings in the minor league. He recorded a 6.11 ERA in 17 appearances with the big club in 2015, and the Brothers brought him into the 2015 Taiwan Series. Tu pitched 2/3 of a shutout inning in Game 2, and he relief Ying-Chieh Lin in the 11th round of Game 3. He pitched a shutout inning, and he got the win thanks to Sheng-Wei Wang's walk-off hit. Tu was the youngest pitcher to get a win in a Taiwan Series.[2] He recorded another 2/3 of a shutout inning in Game 4, added 1 2/3 shutout innings in Game 6 and he allowed 2 runs in Game 7. The Lamigo Monkeys beat the Brothers in 7 games.
However, the Tainan native struggled in 2016 as he was 1-3 with a 2.94 ERA, and he stayed in the minor league for the next two games. His ERA was 6.20 in 26 games in 2017, and he allowed 3 runs in 2 1/3 innings in 2018. He was turned into a batter in 2019, and he hit .321/.397/.426 in the minor league. Tu's batting line was .311/.406/.496 in 2020, and he went 6-for-23 with the big club. He was 0-for-1 in the 2020 Taiwan Series, and the Uni-President Lions beat the Brothers in 7 games. Tu hit .235/.316/.314 in 2021, but he only played 9 games with the big club in 2022. He recorded a .276/.357/.407 batting line in the minors in 2022, and he led the league with 14 doubles. [3]
The TSG Hawks selected him in the expansion draft, and Tu hit .377/.450/.525 in the minor league in 2023. Had he qualified, he would've win the minor league batting title.
