Cheyney University of Pennsylvania
(Redirected from Cheyney University)
Cheyney University of Pennsylvania is located in Cheyney, PA. It was founded in 1837 in Philadelphia, PA as the Institute for Colored Youth, the state of Pennsylvania's first high school for African-American students. It began offering college-level courses shortly afterwards, and moved to its current location in 1902, becoming the nation's first historically black college, and changing its name in 1913.
The school was a founding member of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference, staying in the conference until 2018. Cheyney is known for historically having a very strong basketball team, but does not appear to have sponsored baseball.
