Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder Chet Clemens spent eight active seasons in professional baseball from 1936 to 1944. He also spent the 1943 season in the United States Navy during World War II.

Chet spent the last few weeks of the 1939 season enjoying a nine-game trial with the Boston Bees, batting .217 (5-for-23). After his return from military duty, he played 19 games with the Boston Braves in 1944, hitting .176. His last game came on June 15, finishing a .200 hitter in 28 games. In his eight-year run in the minors, Chet had two good seasons back-to-back with the Evansville Bees of the Class B Three-I League. He hit .314 with 15 home runs in 1940 and .328 with 10 round-trippers in 1941. After his big league finale, Clemens spent the rest of 1944 with the Indianapolis Indians of the American Association, hitting.294 in 101 games. In 828 minor league games, he hit .292.

After baseball, Clemens made his home in San Clemente, CA, where he worked and lived until his death on February 10, 2002, at the age of 84.
