Biographical Information[edit]

Cheng-Yu Wu pitched in Australia and Taiwan and for the Taiwanese national team.

Wu was 2-0 with 14 K and a 0.00 ERA in 11 IP in the 2015 U-18 Baseball World Cup, getting half his team's wins. For the event, only Shotaro Ueno had a "better" ERA (0.00 in 18 IP) and Wu tied for first in wins as well while his teammates were 2-4. [1] He pitched for the Melbourne Aces in the 2015-2016 Australian Baseball League, going 3-3 with a save and a 4.23 ERA but walking 27 in 38 1/3 IP. He was 10th in the ABL with 20 games pitched but tied Rafael Fernandes for 6th in walks. He had a 2.08 ERA for Silver-winning Taiwan in the 2017 Asian Championship. [2] He allowed two unearned runs in 4 2/3 IP in the 2018 U-23 Baseball World Cup, losing to the Netherlands. [3]

The Uni-President Lions took him in the 3rd round of the 2019 CPBL Draft. He was 0-1 with a 6.75 ERA in two games in the 2019 CPBL and was 1-0 with a 5.14 ERA in the Taiwanese minors. [4] Wu stayed in the minors in 2020, and he had a 8.80 ERA there. He broke out in 2021, having a solid 2.09 ERA in 42 appearances and notched 11 holds. He was 9th in holds, 16 behind Chun-Wei Wu.[5] However, he missed the next two seasons due to right elbow injury.

He throws a fastball (peak 93 mph), slider and curveball. [6]
