Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder Chas McCormick was added to the Houston Astros' roster for the 2020 Postseason, even though he had yet to make his major league debut. He was not used in the three rounds in which the Astros played, although a record three other players did make their major league debut during that unusual postseason. He was with the Astros for Opening Day in 2021 and stayed for the entire season, making his debut on April 1st. He was the team's fourth outfielder at first, but following a mid-season trade of CF Myles Straw, he started sharing the starting job at the position with another rookie, Jake Meyers. Overall, he hit .257 in 108 games as a rookie, with 14 homers and 50 RBIs. He was also the team's best defensive outfielder after Straw's departure, excelling at all three positions according to advanced metrics. He began the postseason sharing playing time with Meyers until Meyers was injured in the Division Series against the Chicago White Sox. He took over the job full time, only sitting down occasionally in favor of yet another rookie, Jose Siri. He went 2 for 5 in the Division Series, and 4 for 14 in the ALCS against the Boston Red Sox.

In 2022, McCormick was the Astros' fourth outfielder, with left field being his most common position following an injury to Michael Brantley. In 119 games, he hit .245 with 14 homers and 44 RBIs, for an OPS+ of 111. He played another 12 games in the postseason and was at his best in the Astros' sweep of the New York Yankees in the ALCS when he homered twice. In the World Series against the Philadelphia Phillies, he appeared in all six games and went 4 for 19 with 1 run and 3 walks as Houston won its second-ever title. He was again a fourth outfielder in 2023 and had a career day on July 24th when he collected 6 RBIs in a 10-9 win over the Texas Rangers. His night included a game-tying homer off Aroldis Chapman in the 7th inning, and a game-winning RBI single off Yainer Diaz in the 9th.

McCormick is only the fourth player out of Millersville University to reach the majors, including one (Jim Weaver) from the days before the school became a full-fledged university.
