Biographical Information[edit]
Charlie Sprague played for three different teams during three years n the major leagues. He was primarily a pitcher during the first two seasons, but was a two-way player with the 1890 Toledo Maumees, for whom he pitched 19 times and played the outfield 40 times. As a pitcher for the Maumees, he went 9-5.
He was a two-way player with the 1887 Lynn Lions before coming to the big leagues.
In addition to his playing career, Charlie Sprague umpired one American Association game in 1890.
He was the first player named Sprague in the big leagues, followed by the first Ed Sprague and the second Ed Sprague. Homer Spragins had a similar name.
