Charlie Schaffernoth was a minor league player for six years. He debuted with the 1953 Wisconsin Rapids White Sox, hitting .266/~.366/.379 and fielding .982, the best of any catcher in the Wisconsin State League that year. In 1954, Charles was smacking the ball for the Topeka Owls, clubbing 16 homers, batting .293 and driving in 106. He was sixth in the Western Association in runs batted in. In 1955, Schaffernoth was on the Bisbee-Douglas Copper Kings and hit .315 with 15 HR and 104 RBI.
Moving up and to a less offense-friendly league, Charlie only batted .232 for the 1956 Waterloo White Hawks and .222 for the Colorado Springs Sky Sox. In 1957, Schaffernoth had a decent year with the Des Moines Demons, putting up a .271/~.316/.311 line as the club's main catcher. Four years later, he hit .216 with the Charleston White Sox to wrap up his career.
