Biographical Information[edit]
" Ingraham, the Youngstown youth, caught acceptably for Baltimore." - Sporting Life's account of Charlie Ingraham's one major league game
Charlie Ingraham's only game was on July 4, 1883. He played catcher and got one hit for manager Billy Barnie of the Baltimore Orioles.
The Orioles tried 9 players at catcher that year, with John Kelly getting the most times behind the plate - 39 games. Barnie himself appeared 13 times behind the plate that season. In Ingraham's game he made one error and had 6 passed balls, but passed balls were very common on the team that year, with 213 passed balls in 96 games. Barnie himself had 33 in his 13 games.
Ingraham was once included on a fan's team of players whose names started with either "In" or "Out", along with players such as Pete Incaviglia and Chink Outen.
Through 2019, he is the only big leaguer with the last name Ingraham, although there have been three with the name Ingram.
