Biographical Information[edit]

After playing baseball and football at the University of North Carolina, pitcher Chal Port spent time in the Milwaukee Braves organization. He was 1-0 with the 1954 Eau Claire Braves. In 1956, he went 5-4 with a 4.50 ERA for Eau Claire.

Following his playing days, he was head football coach at Titusville High School from 1958-1963 and had also been assistant coach in basketball and track. He was then the longtime baseball coach at The Citadel from 1965 to 1991. In 27 seasons at the helm of the team, he won 641 games and led the school to 7 conference titles and an appearance in the 1990 College World Series (through 2011, it remains the school's only CWS appearance).
