Biographical Information[edit]
Infielder Carter Kieboom is the son of Hoofdklasse player Alswinn Kieboom and younger brother of Spencer Kieboom. Like his brother, he attended George Walton Comprehensive High School in Marietta, GA, from which he was drafted by the Washington Nationals in the Compensation Round A of the 2016 amateur draft, with the 28th overall pick.
He made his professional debut in 2016 with the GCL Nationals, hitting .244/.323/.452 in 36 games. He followed that with a solid season spread among three teams in 2017. He started off in extended spring training, then hit .417 in 6 games in the Gulf Coast League before spending a week with the Auburn Doubledays on his way to playing 48 games with the Hagerstown Suns of the South Atlantic League. In all, he hit .297/.396/.493 with 16 doubles and 9 homers. scored 41 runs and drove in 35. He then played a full season in 2018 and continued to hit very well. In 61 games for the Potomac Nationals of the Carolina League, he hit . 298, followed by a .262 average in 62 games for the Harrisburg Senators of the Eastern League. Overall, in 123 games, his batting line was .280/.357/.44 with 31 doubles, 16 homers, 84 runs and 69 RBIs. That year, he played in the 2018 Futures Game for the U.S. team.
He made his major league debut on April 26, 2019, being overshadowed by Vladimir Guerrero Jr. who also made his debut that day. For his part, Carter did not disappoint as he hit his first major league homer off Craig Stammen of the San Diego Padres that day, a solo shot that tied the game in the 8th inning, although the Nats went on to lose, 4-3. He started then game at shortstop and went 1 for 4. On April 28th, he joined teammates Juan Soto and Victor Robles in going deep against the Padres, making the Nats the first team to ever have a trio of players all 21 or younger homer in the same game. After being sent back to the minors, he was named to the roster of the National League team for the 2019 Futures Game.
