Biographical Information

Carr Smith played in the majors in 1923 and 1924. He was part of the 1924 Washington Senators team which won the 1924 World Series but he did not appear in the Series, having made his last appearance on June 9.

Carr was born in Kernersville, NC, between Winston-Salem, NC and Greensboro, NC. He played in the minors through 1944, when he was 43 years old, including stints with several North Carolina teams. He was an outfielder although he pitched a few games early in his career.

Smith often hit well over .300 in the minors, and in fact in 1923 hit .418 for Raleigh in 112 games. He also played for one of the top minor league teams in 1924, after the Senators sent him to Memphis. The Memphis team went 104-49 for the season, although Smith was not one of the big batting stars on the team that year.

He also managed for part of a season in 1934.
