Biographical Information[edit]
Pitcher Carlos Vargas was called up to the majors by the Cleveland Guardians in September 2022 but did not get to appear in a game that season. Following the season, he was traded to the Arizona Diamondbacks for Ross Carver and did not have to wait long to make his debut. On Opening Day, March 30, 2023, he pitched two-thirds of an inning in relief against the Los Angeles Dodgers, allowing 1 run in an 8-2 loss. He pitched only 5 games in the majors, the last on April 11th, with no record and an ERA of 5.79 in 4 2/3 innings. He spent the remainder of the year with the AAA Reno Aces, going 1-1, 7.02 in 38 relief appearances with 2 saves. In 42 1/3 innings, he struggled with his control, striking out 36 but walking 32.
On November 22, 2023, he was traded again, this time going to the Seattle Mariners alongside C Seby Zavala in return for veteran 3B Eugenio Suarez.
